We all have something we’re passionate about and dreams we want to accomplish. We were all placed on Earth with a purpose; however, we’re not always given a blueprint on how to achieve it. That’s where the fear of the unknown comes in and tries to take over. Fear can succumb you and everything you dream or want for yourself if you let it. The fear of actually achieving this huge dream may scare you, but you can’t let it hold you hostage. Sometimes life will even put you in a situation where you have no choice but to take that leap. Here are a few ways you can push past the fear of achieving your goals and come out on top.
Acknowledge the fear
The first step is to acknowledge how you’re feeling and point out the reasons why. It’s okay to feel nervous and afraid of going after the unknown. However, you can’t let it hold you back. Ask yourself “why am I afraid to achieve this goal?”, and “what message does this fear have for me?” Once you have recognized what’s really holding you back, start making a plan to overcome it. Most of the time these fears are from us overthinking and creating them in our head. We tend to make things more than what they are because of fear. Acknowledge that you’re afraid and take control of your imagination.
Do it until it feels right
One of the challenges of fear is knowing when to listen to it and when not to. If you feel your intuition saying something isn’t a good idea, then don’t proceed. However, to achieve your goals that align with your purpose, figure out small moves that will lead up to it. If you have dreams of working for a top fashion magazine, start by asking for an informational interview or reach out about any internships. If you have dreams of being in the medical field, find a trusted mentor who would be interested in letting you shadow them. Keep your goal in mind and stay consistent. All it takes is that first move towards your goal and your fears will eventually fade away. Also, be open to rejection as you move out of your comfort zones. Rejection only means there’s another way for you.
Visualize yourself succeeding
You’ve probably heard the phrase, “If your dreams don’t scare you, you’re not dreaming big enough.” While this is correct, you still have to overcome the hurdles that will try to stop you from achieving. Everything you want is on the other side of fear. How will you feel once you’ve finally achieved your goal? Use that feeling as motivation to push past the fear. Manifest your goals and dreams as if they have already happened. Change your mindset about fear and don’t let it keep you stagnant. Once you start to believe that you can and will achieve, fear no longer has a place on your journey.
